Identification of unknown protein by protein sequence

Identification of unknown protein by protein sequence

Aim: To confirm the collagen protein we are going to insert into our cells is correct I have sent off the DNA to be sequenced. While we wait for the data to arrive I am going to practise my protein identification skills, I’ve been given a DNA sequence from another project and I need to check the protein sequence and function.

Amino acids are what make up proteins (the products of DNA that carry out functions in the cell). Each 3-base DNA codon is the instruction to make a specific amino acid. If I decode each codon, I can work out what protein the DNA in my plasmid is making.
